      XXIII World Congress

XXIII World Congress of Clinical Cardiology, Echocardiography and Allied Imaging

Techniques in combination with ECHO INDIA-2017 (22nd Annual Conference of Indian

Academy of Echocardiography), October 6–8, 2017, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India

This Congress which was preceded by an Echo Workshop and Course on October 5 was a resounding success with a record breaking participation of 2250 delegates from all over the world. The credit for the fantastic success of the Congress goes to the Organization Committee which consisted of Dr (Col). Satish Parashar, the “Father of Echocardiography in India,” as the President of the Congress, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, the Secretary General and key organizer, Drs. Sameer Shrivastava and S. Ramakrishna, Joint Secretaries,

Dr. H.K. Chopra. President IAE, and Dr. S. Shanmugasundaram, President-elect IAE, while Dr. Navin C. Nanda served as both the International President and the Chief Guest of the Congress. The local organizers were led by Drs. Ashok Garg and Sandeep Juneja. The Congress was organized by the Indian Academy of Echocardiography (IAE} and co-sponsored by the International Society of Cardiovascular

Ultrasound (ISCU) as well as other Societies including the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE, Allan Klein and Sunil Mankad), European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI, Bernard Cosyns and Roxy Senior), Asian Pacifi c Association of Echocardiography (AAE, Jae Oh and Thomas Marwick) and

American Association of Cardiologists of Indian Origin. A total of 54 international faculty from several countries of the world and 88 national faculty took part in the scientifi c sessions which consisted of lectures, symposia, live demonstration of cases and panel discussions. Three orations selected by IAE and named after international icons Navin C Nanda, Natesa G Pandian and Bijoy Khandheria were delivered

by Allan Klein, Nitin Burkule and H.K Chopra, respectively. The prestigious Annual IAE lecture was delivered by Thomas Marwick. The World Echo Oration on “Impact of new technologies in clinical practice” was delivered by Navin C Nanda, who was also bestowed the award “International Father of Echocardiography”. Dr. Ravi Kasliwal was presented the Life Time Achievement Award in a glittering ceremony by the IAE and the Congress also saw the release by the Chief Guest of the fi rst Textbook of Echocardiography (Editors: Drs. V. Amuthan and Satish Parashar) by the IAE. One of the hallmarks of the

Congress was 18 case study sessions in which very interesting, challenging and unusual cases were shown by both senior and young faculty. Research Awards were also presented to young investigators. It was the experience of a lifetime for delegates to attend a quiz session on Echo Jeopardy conducted by Sunil Mankad. IAE Fellowships were awarded to several national echocardiographers by Dr. Raja Babu Panwar,

the Vice-Chancellor of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences at a special function where Dr. B.R. Soni, a pioneer physician of Jaipur was also honored. Evening social functions were well organized and admired by all especially the faculty dinner visit to the

Palace of the Maharaja of Jaipur with a welcome greeting by decorated elephants, horses and traditional music and dancing by local Rajasthani artists. All faculty and participants were provided with special Rajasthani turbans which added to the excitement and fun. A recurring comment was “We have never attended such a great conference before.”
