The International Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound (ISCU) Turkey Chapter organized a highly successful webinar entitled “ Innovations in Imaging and Treatment of Tricuspid Insufficiency” on April 30, 2021 in association with Altinbas University.
As we all know ISCU was founded by Navin C Nanda, father of echocardiography and a distinguished professor of medicine and cardiovascular disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Encouraged by him, the Turkey chapter was formed by Prof. Nurgul Keser and Prof. Sibel Enar in 2009. ”We have held various international congresses in Turkey co-sponsored by ISCU and this webinar is our first digital activity which we hope will continue” aid Prof Keser who was moderating the panel with Prof Enar.
Distinguished lecturers addressed different aspects of diseases affecting the tricuspid valve (TV) which had long been called a “forgotten valve” and the webinar by focusing on recent advances in diagnosis and treatment of TV served to bring home the point it no longer is a forgotten valve.
Prof Ozlem Batukan Esen from Turkey elegantly introduced the subject and provided an overview of TV lesions setting the stage for Dr Maurizio Taramasso from Zurich University who gave an excellent presentation on both the interventional and surgical techniques used in the management of TV insufficiency. Prof Navin Nanda addressed the role of 3D imaging in the echocardiographic evaluation of TV regurgitation as well as the utility of both 2D and 3D echocardiography in the interventional management of the valve.
An interesting discussion moderated by Profs. Keser and Enar followed the presentations. They also addressed a large number of questions from the audience which seemed to be most interested in this webinar.
Because of the great interest generated by this webinar, the Turkey Chapter of ISCU recently announced that a series of similar webinars on various other topics are planned in the near future.
